Tan your own – Goat no 24

$40.00

This is a Boer goat skin that is white with a brown neck, that has been salt dried. I haven’t been happy with the alum preserved skins so have moved to salt drying instead. I find it easier for customers to rehydrate. It has been fleshed, dried, and is ready for you to tan it in any way you like – bark tan, chrome tan, synthetic tan, eg. whatever you like.

This one might be a challenge to get flat after tanning so might be best used for another purpose where it will be cut up.

Goat skins are generally challenging to tan at home and get a good result so should only be done if you are experienced in tanning. All you have to do when you receive the skin is to soak it for a few hours or so til it’s soft and rehydrated, pickle, tan it, oil, and trim.

If you need tanning instructions please let me know.

NOTE, as long as it’s kept in a dry place this skin will keep in good condition for months or even a year or more. If exposed to moisture, even humid air conditions it can be destroyed (this does not apply to soaking before tanning, just to extended periods of air moisture).
